South Africa – Johannesburg

Today, by relocating and uniting structures, MIDM, Gregory Maqoma, FNB Dance Umbrella and Dance Factory are now neighbors. There are 7 studios for 4 structures, each engaged in a different and strongly identified project: there emerges the possibility of a new niche for contemporary dance in Africa.

In March 2009, Michel Kelemenis passes on a work from his repertoire to Moving Into Dance Mophatong. The idea of an international workshop for young dancers, professional choreographers and composers takes shape. Supervised by artistic advisors – including the choreographers Vincent Sekwati Mantsoe and Michel Kelemenis – the young international artists selected work together during a two-week residence in Johannesburg from July 26 to August 8 creating works to be performed at the Dance Factory. This kind of artistic laboratory foreshadows a mirror project based in Europe at the Dance Center in Residence in Marseille.
